Help! Need Some Input!?

October 31, 2009

I have about a 3.2 GPA as of right now, and i’m just starting my junior year of high school. (I take all honors courses too, so my GPA is unweighted and my class rank is about 80/550) I also just took the PSAT recently and feel i did pretty well, but i don’t know as of yet. I also think i’m a good essay writer, and i have the principal as a teacher so perhaps she would write me a letter of recommendation. I also have a wide range of extracurriculars, and i do wrestling. While this is all well in good in my opinion, i don’t think i have the grades to get into a top university such as john hopkins or northwestern, and its an even bigger stretch for ivies. Regardless, i’d like some input because i’m flipping out about this! I’d like to know where you think my grades would land me, schoolwise. I’m also very interested in medicine, so keep that in mind! Thank you.

I’m not really familiar with GPA conversions, but I googled it (lol) and the chart said your average would be around an 89. If you’re considering someplace like Johns Hopkins, you might want to pull that up to something in the 90s.

You’re ranked around the top 15% in your class, which is pretty good. But, like I said, bring up your average, and then perhaps you can bring up your rank a bit more. Top 15% is good, but selective colleges really like students in the top 10%.

Colleges also like to know you participate in extracurriculars. A lot of kids start frantically joining every activity out there in their junior year, which is wrong. Colleges want to see that you are committed, so a smaller number of activities that you are devoted to would be better than a bunch of activities that you don’t care about. How long have you been on the wrestling team? If you’ve been on it since Freshman year, it shows commitment. Try to get some leadership positions, too. Maybe try to be captain of the team, or, if you’re in any clubs, run for one of the official positions. If don’t get leadership positions, create a club. So many people that I know panicked because they didn’t have any leadership positions, so they just made one up. Colleges love to see that you can take charge, so really aim for some leadership!

Another word of advice: don’t trust your PSATs that much. I heard from a teacher that they aren’t that great. While they were pretty much on target for me, not the same can be said for everyone. My friend scored in the 2000s on the PSATs, but on the real thing, he only scored in the 1700s. If you’re looking at John Hopkins, try for at least an 1800, and a 1300 raw score (just math and reading combined). Don’t worry too much about SATs though. Obviously you want to score well, but even if you don’t score in the 2000s don’t count yourself out for Ivies because so much more factors into admissions decisions besides the SAT score.

Though this is not part of your immediate future, try to write a killer application essay. The essay is how the admissions officers get to know you. They don’t want to hear about how you scored a 90 on your math test, or something. They want to learn about you, something that the numbers can’t explain. Just try to stay away from dead grandmothers, as they’re horribly cliched lol.

Also, take the toughest classes your school offers. You say that you’re in Honors, but if your schools offers AP or IB classes, take them. Selective colleges want to see that you challenge yourself. Plus, if you pass your AP exams, you can get college credits and save some money.

Basically, I’m telling you to get your GPA up a little. And if you’re thinking of going into medicine, take AP science courses, like Bio or Chem. And make sure you have reaches, targets, and safeties. You don’t want to get stuck going to community college because you only applied to the extremes (not that there’s anything wrong with community college, but when you work hard in school, you often feel like you can do better - and you can definitely do better than community college).

Anyhow, good luck!

yes he would he has the body for it and he looks healthy and athletic so yes he would be good :) Renesmee | Oct 30, 2009

He has a good short, stocky build for it. You don’t want something large and leggy. Something looks off about the movement in his hind end, though. Maybe it’s just me (Trust me, it’s been a LONGGGG day!! haha). He is a cute little guy, though you could definitely try it.

The mare I compete with is no conformational gem, trust me hahaha. She’s just a fat bay racking horse mare with a funny head but the girl’s got heart and boy can she run like crazy. I think you could definitely try it. It’s all in his heart.

he needs to learn how to lope and gallop because barrel racing is a game of speed but other then that he looks fine for the part!

I want to carve my pumpkin with the phantom of the opera logo with the mask and all that, but i cant find one that is free! any good pumpkin patterns anywhere that are free and printable?
hello?.. anyone there?..

hello! this is what i could find:

1 not a mask but it is the 1925 version of the phantom http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image =lonchaneypatternqv0.jpg

2. this is just a picture, not a cut out but a picture. maybe you could use this as an example.I think you need to sign up for something if you want the cut out. or pay, not sure which. http://www.spookmaster.com/pumpkin-carvi ng-patterns-phantom-of-the-opera.htm

sorry, the best I could find.

edit: this is not what you said but a suggestion. make a normal faced pumpkin (it could be happy or scary i suppose) and get a pic of a plain phantom of the opera mask without a guy wearing it. make it bigger on word. print it out and put it on the pumpkin. or you dont even need to make a face. i got the idea from this pic. http://www.sillydillytotspot.com/nce-711 97.html

How about Iougodala or Deng or even Kirelinko

i dont think sixers will pull the trade with frye and webster for iguodala, if they do, the blazers should accept it. i dont like the trade for kirilenko, his game was a downgrade last season.

just mix frye and webster with oden, roy and aldridge and let them grow together. that will be good.

stevenashty21 | Sep 02, 2007

not frye we just worked so hard to get him
maybe webster and jack or something
still its hard to get something like this to work
and i think we need shooters, as many as we can get
go52ptb | Sep 02, 2007

no i dont think so…frye showed last year and the year before that great potential and i think hes a really good back-up of aldridge…as far as as webster is concerned all i am going to say is that the kid has unlimited potential he just have to believe more in himself..but if u had to "sacrifice" some of those 2 id choose webster..
rforrevenge | Sep 02, 2007

They wouldnt be able to get Deng or others for Fyre and Webster. they would have to go lower.

Where is of Michael Jackson’s stuff and possessions that used to be in neverland?
The Late Michael Jackson, the amazing singer and dancer had millions of dollars worth of statues and ornaments and loads of things in Neverland. I just seen pictures of Neverland and it is just a shadow of what it used to be. So, where has everything went?

He removed all his stuff when he thought he was going to lose it the last time. He hadn’t lived there for like 5 years so it didn’t really matter anymore. Then there was going to be an auction to pay off some debt but I think they found some way to stop it.

I hope and pray they put it all back together again and make it a ‘graceland’ type place to visit.

poledanceprincess | Jul 06, 2009

before he died he was gonna auction off some of his things
but now his mother is in charge of it all
RIP MJ | Jul 04, 2009

I saw Neverland on CNN yesterday and I was surprised that it was virtually empty. I also wondered where everything went. Did he not go there at all?. It is so incredibly sad that the one place that he loved so much was taken away from him by people who just wanted to use and destroy him. These ppl will have their day…but I hope that his kids inherit Neverland in rememberence of their dad.
Sara | Jul 04, 2009

I was also surprised to see this happen, I wondered why they didn’t just leave it there to honor him. It was probably because since Michael is dead, the animal caretakers won’t get paid so the animals got moved to a zoo. As for his personal items and such, I heard that they were auctioning off some of his stuff.
Alice | Jul 05, 2009

Michael was supposed to be auctioning some stuff off before he died but retracted the sale of any item and now i believe from what I have read that his family are in charge of everything

I bet some money hungry guys are fed up that they never bought anything from the auction before, did you guys see the documentary late last year where Jacko did an auction a few years back but nobody turned up

hmm, if someone had bought his glove for say 1000 dollars at the time then it would be worth AT LEAST ten times that now i would say

I believe his memorabilia will rise in price too just like elvis merchandise

RIP Michael

Everything was sold at auction to help pay for debts. Since the last child molestion charges Michael moved everything else out of the country including his children.

I cannot for the life of me think that his memory should be of just his music.

He was charged with child molestion not once but twice. Remember he settled out of court the first time. That to me shows guilt, especially since he fought the second charge.

Remember not only his music but the time he dangled his child off a balcony in London for reporters.

This is gone to far for someone who was just a "singer".

And what about all the celebs who abandoned Michael when he was charged with everything, now they come out in force to support him. What a bunch of BS.

Let’s worry about the wars and let regular people live and die without the hoopla Michael is recieving.

I also heard they want a Michael Jackson day and a stamp. Are people crazy? He has never done anything for this country, like MLK.

Please lets all remember our sanity in this great time of need.
Tammy | Jul 07, 2009

Every piece of MJ’s "personal" stuff was inventoried, checked off a list and seperated into TWO cataegories: OWNED and OWED ON: both went to their respective warehouses—secured by ARMED SECURITY (give me a break….geez!!), where they sit, waiting for museum donation and/or auction.

Auction profits:

OWNED: Will go to pay for debts MJ made—and he made A TON of them!! Once cleared, sale $$$$ made will go to, in order–the lawyers, the family….oh and the kids.

OWED ON: Will go to the greedy hands of whomever leased MJ the properties, for such people—MJ well timed his death.

I heard google bought a new satellite or something so you can see anything "bigger than a shopping bag" with amazing clarity. When is this going to be implemented?

I do not actually know but I am all against Google Earth. It invades everyone’s privacy. It’s like having a big black van outside your house monitoring you

He almost died the first half in pain. Hobbling around and dieing in pain. The second half he got a shot or something of pain killer cause the second half he came out like Jesus christ on a quest.
Doctor gave him something good at halftime for pain. I want some of those drugs.
Give some to the whole team, instant national champions.

The right drugs make for a great pro athlete in 2009.

Lol, no way UNC will be able to win the NCAA tournament w/o him. Look at marquette for example, they lost I believe 6 of their last 7 without Dominique James? They need someone that can handle the ball. The all around player is the Point Guard himself. They bring the ball out, and they are the ones who give the assists. I hate UNC btw.
