Alien Trespass
Alien Trespass (2009)

IMDB rating: 7.50

Plot: The story begins in 1957 in the star-filled skies above California’s Mojave Desert. It is a special night for noted astronomer Ted Lewis, who is preparing a special dinner for his beautiful, adoring wife Lana to celebrate their wedding anniversary. In another part of town, Tammy, a waitress at small local diner with big plans for the future, looks out her window and is excited to see a shooting star, which she takes as a good sign for her dreams. But, what Dr. Lewis and Tammy assume is a shooting star, is really an alien spaceship. The fiery ball hurtles toward earth and crash-lands on a butte in the desert. The only witnesses are teens Dick and Penny who are necking in a nearby lover’s lane. A tall, metallic alien named Urp emerges from the craft unharmed, alarmed to discover that the monstrous Ghota, who was also on board, has escaped. The menacing one-eyed creature’s unquenchable appetite could mean the end of civilization as we know it. Urp is the only one who knows how to stop the hideous extra-terrestrial, but to do so he has to take over the body of Dr. Lewis and enlist the aid of Tammy, the only human in town willing to believe and trust in his mission. The local police - including Chief Dawson and Officer Vern - are confirmed skeptics and offer little help. Together, Urp and Tammy must hunt down the Ghota and neutralize it before it consumes all the local inhabitants and uses the human fuel to multiply and conquer the world!

Hindus: Why do you repeat all Faiths are true?
When no religion is ready to accept that any other religion save theirs is the ONLY TRUE faith, what purpose does it serve in your repeating that all roads (spiritual pursuits) lead to Rome (same one God)?

Even amidst your own denominations, there are inflexible ones that claim that only their chosen deity is the supreme. In that case, how do you expect other Faiths that believe in separate religious histories, incidents, prophesies and rituals to ever accept the unity of Purpose with other faiths?

Rather would it not be useful to confine the discussions to our own practices, to clarify the critical messages, relating to our own beliefs among our religious fraternity - without any trespass into other beliefs of alien faiths?
Mx thanks. But there are excellently argued readable books from atheism to pantheism. As you said, it is the self enquiry rather than any ready made theory - however well argued and apparently rational - that would be best for the earnest seeker. For, if one reads half a dozen books by eminent people on diverse theories, each is likely to look logical and practical, as we start looking at things from the author’s stand point. But Hinduism provides all the possible ways to reacch Godhood - as in the Bhagavad Gits, where different options with the merits and problems with each is given. The earnest ones would find the one best for their temperament, by free access to multiple options, rather than going to single theory.. that could prove indoctrinating! Sraddaavaan labathe gnaanam - the sincere one finds the true knowledge (Gita)
Hi crewsaid, nice one. But I think it is best to call the eastern religions as Philosophical rather than Vedanthic, because the Faiths like Budhism and Jainism do not accept the Brahman concept of Sanathana Dharma (Vedas), that is why they are called as Atheist Faiths (faiths not accepting the Vedas are called so in our traditional parlance) But their philosophies are not totally irrelevent as theories like "desires as root cause of suffering" are also found in the Vedas / B Gita, etc. Only thing is they did not go beyond the ethical bases, in their spiritual explorations (Adi sankara’s commentary on these religions).
Ranger, Krishna indeed said that whatever path the people followed, they were still going to the same (divine) destination - mama varthma anuvarthanthe manushyaha (Gita 4:11)
hello smily, your idea is well taken. I precisely want the hindu pals to realize that we don’t need the stamp of approval of our all comprehensive spiritual philosophies from other Faiths, which we treat on par with our own religion. But the tendency to flash our greatness - often looked as primitive / false one by western faiths - only invites bitter comments from those sections. So my sugggestion is to restrict our discussions within our own fold - addressed to Hindus only - asking, clarifying things etc and not appear to be propagandist.

Jesus or should i say krishna
god knows what kind of people have u come across……..but one thing i know is that yes all religions are true.as they teach not to lie.to love all all religions are against war and brutal behaviour.i believe that iam the best , still iam trying to becom a better human being
people who are weak and have inferiority complex try and hide there weakneses by shouting at others by questioning others….asthey themselves don,t know what they are..so forgetabout those who are selfcentered and look up to those who take everyone at par. god bless u

Lord Buddha said don’t believe in anything until you experience it or u agree to it by using your common sense and knowledge
DO NOT WORRY WHAT Hindus say or what others say

the path to truth is inside you
do not believe in concepts blindly search for truth inside
now the question arises how to search for truth inside

for this if you are really eager and you are really interested read this book

That is the greatness of Hinduism, it also reflects the narrow minded approach of abrahmic faiths that only there way is good or can lead to the path of salvation. I just pity that thought :) 3rd umpire | Sep 18, 2009

There are two major branches of religion, one is the Abrahaimic religion branch that includes Judaism, Christianity and Islam and the other is Vedantic religion that includes Hinduism, Jainism Buddhism, Zen, Shinto, Sikhism et al. The Sanatan Dharm (eternal religion) that sprang from Vedanta is an open religion and assilmilates the entire humanity in its fold. It understands and propogates the theory of Karma and Liberation and is probably closest to the divine truth. Being a mature religion and closest to truth, Hinduism propogates the truth of one divine power and one soul for the entire humanity. Today the karmic theory and theory of reincarnation have been scientifically proved by the West, although we are still awaiting the theories of heaven and hell and judgement day to be proven. The problem with Hinduism is that it happens to know the truth and when it propogates truth all other religions feel insecure because Hinduism does not really subscribe to their views and is rather contrary to Abrahaimic religious beliefs. And look how Christianity and Islam although sharing the same original source are at each others throats, how they are humiliating Jesus and Mohammad in the name of religion. Hindus too are not innocent of ‘ignorance’ and are bringing a bad name to Vedantic philosophy on which the Hindu religion is based. It seems the time for Kalki Avataar has arrived for a cleansing operation on earth.
crewsaid | Sep 18, 2009

You are right for the maximum part.

No mind is similar even though the substratum of every mind works similarly, as Science says every brain although different is nothing but millions of neurons forming a neural network. But Indians see mind and brain as different entities, and Indians are more concerned with Mind than with brain.

As no mind is similar, so no path can be accepted as Universal. This is how the mind works. Everyone has different requirement for religion, everyone needs something different from others.

An example: "When I asked some users here "What do you want to achieve Union in god or Serving God"" Some users said that they don’t need union with god, but want to serve him with love and that is their Moksha. While some others said that they wanted to attain their natural state of Brahman.

See even here, many people have different opinion, so what about billions of people?

Krishna says "All faiths are true", I know that every faith tries to purify mind, and then make it concentrated on particular aspect or God, and this concentration of mind on any entity results in Moksha or Liberation.

Its all about mind.

Can someone critique my review on Springsteen concert?
Bruce Springsteen and his "hard-rocking, Viagra-taking, heart-stopping and history-making E Street Band." The first time I’ve ever seen The Boss and his legendary band play live, and I assure you, it will by no means be the last.

After his performance the evening before, playing at Glastonbury festival, you would have thought the 59 year old would be a little less energetic, but the only complaint the crowd rereceivedrom him, was that of "Somebody get me a ******* elevator! I’m nearly 60!’ after falling up the stairs, coming back from singing with the crowd, and by the second song, Springsteen’s didisagreehirt had turned black from sweat.

Opening with The Clash’s ‘London Calling’, in honor of the late Joe Strummer, from the start the crowd knew the night was going to be one hell of a show, which, after a three and half hour set that left every member of the audience so moved they felt like they were the only witness of the night. A perfect setlist which included Outlaw Pete, Youngstown, quite possibly the best rendition of Jungleland and a moving version of Racing in the Street, and of course, the night ended with Dancing in the Dark, which led a crowd of more than 50′000 people singing the chorus ththough outhe streets of London on their way home.

A 27 song set, a guest performance from Brian Fallon-lead singer of The Gaslight Anthem-on the ‘84 hit No Surrender, a powerful delivery of "Hard Times Come Again No More"- an S.C.Foster song written in 1854 about the American Civil War, and the infamous E Street promise of ‘building a house of love’. A small section of London’s Hyde Park has tonight been graced by a music legend, and there is no doubt that that promise was almost certainly kept.

I want to get crucified, nails through the hands (maybe feet). How dangerous is this?
OK, so I’m in an up and coming Australian version of Jackass and I have heard the idea of a crucifixion flying around. What I know is the person doing the stunt wont be hanging, but standing against a cross, nails through the MIDDLE of the hands, and possibly through the feet.

I’ve been looking around and this is a common ritual in places like the Philippines, and the people are all fine afterward with no loss of ability in either feet or hands. But it’s shocking and looks insane, and I’m aware of an element of danger since the hands and feet have a bundle of nerves and artery’s.

I’m thinking of taking the stunt, its open to everyone but so far I’m the only one interested in going that far. I will have a nurse at hand, I am studying the anatomy of the hand and feet and I’m also going to speak to a Doctor about it - who will almost certainly tell me not to do it. Since it can be done, I want to know if anyone has witnessed this or has advice on the matter…

Sorry!

nah you wont be able to. When you get the game it goes on your steam account. so you would have the same steam name, which wouldn’t allow you to play.

you can possibly torrent the game, but youl probably have to buy it again.

is it really over?!?!?
k so my boyfriend and i were together for 2yrs and 2 months. at 1st it was great. but later on we started having problems like any other relationship. allot of things have been going wrong in his life which sucks i know. we brought in 2010 together for the 1st time as a couple and honestly, it was one of THE BEST times we’ve had. we were doing good i mean like super good..communication was fine, we were even talking about kids..he was thinkin bout startin a family next year cause he’ll be doen with school in 1 more semester. Then stuff started happening again. he got demoted from his position, he lost $200, he’s already failing some of his classes casue he didnt have the money to buy the books to study. and then the arguments started again. 3wks went by and we only had sex TWICE. i was on birth control but i got off a month ago and we just dont like trojans lol. 3 days ago i was upset becasue we havent done anything intimate. so i asked him. and he said exactly this:

me: so r we gonna ever have sex again lol r we gonna go back to wen i only see u once a week?
me: can u asnwer my questions please
him: u know wat lets take a break. we both have allot on our minds right now. im busy with school and frustrated with work and i dont wanna be in a relationship right now. either learn to be an adult and accept things that r thrown ur way or move on from this relationhip.

me: its not my fault ur life’s shitty. i can only be there for u if want me too..but if u want me to leave then fine. watever.

him:u alwyas say that.

————————
so its been 3 days and neither one of us has made any attempts to talk to each other. normally i have this annoying tendeency were i constantly text and call him wen this happens. but its been 3 days and ive never gone that long without trying to talk to him. i told him to throw my bra that i left at his away and he said no cause it reminds him off me.

my question: is it really over? i dont know how to feel anymore and it hurts bein rejected like this. we work together but i dunno wat to do wen i see him at work.

Yes.Get over it and move on.

Is Lenovo a good brand of laptop? Is it as good as Compaq or HP brand of laptops?
I’m not really familiar w/ this brand of laptop, since our company uses Dell and most people I know use either Compaq or HP… But I saw a Lenovo laptop (G450) and I liked its specs, but I still want to know:
Is Lenovo any good in terms of stability and performance?
How about security?
After-sales service? (I live in the Philippines)
Upgradeability?
Gaming? (just for reference, Command & Conquer Red Alert 2)
And lastly, can you recommend other good laptops at a cost of up to PhP 30,000
or roughly $650?
Appreciate the help, thanks!!

Lenovo is good laptop because they are IBM, and IBM is one of the pioneers in computers

Stability and performance depends on the sepcifications
Check their online site for more info and terms

Recommends: Dell

HP are not good laptop they are only good printers

Lenovo=IBM
Marco G | Dec 18, 2009

It’s a good brand. Better than Compaq. Lenovo bought IBM’s thinkpad manufacturing plants and continued making laptops. They’re quite nice, but more for businesses.

Stability and Performance is good. Security is going to be based on your OS and software, so that’s irrelevant. I don’t know about service in the philippines. Laptops are not upgradable.
Mercuri | Dec 18, 2009

The Lenovo G450 looks very good. However you can get a good laptop for a much more cheaper price. In MY opinion, HP is much more or a better deal. I have many computers and so far out of all my hp laptop has lasted me roughly about 5 years before performance started to decrease.when it was starting to become slow i upgrading from windows xp to windows vista and my computer works just as if i bought. Also hp laptops have very good cooling systems to run those games. a new laptop would most likely cost betwenn 500-600 U.S. dollars.
Kevin | Dec 18, 2009

Lenovo is actually IBM

its a very reliable make plus they have a hard coating that lasts well

we’ve just moved from IBM to Dell at work (due to cost) and does it show, the out of the box failure rate and problems we get from the Dells is crazy, never had this problem with IBM

so if you want a laptop thats well built, reliable and will last go IBM

Lenovo is good, formerly IBM. Another good brand is Dell.

Roman Legionnaire VS Samurai?
My money is all on the Roman Legionnaire.Although most people instantly assume the samurai wins, they don’t know any actual facts about either groups.

I say Roman Legionnaire would win because:
1)A veteran Roman Legionnaire probably fought a huge varieties of enemies(from tall large Germanic barbarians to the fanatical Britons). They have more experience against different techniques. The Samurai on the other hand only fought other samurais. They only knew how to counter and fight against Samurai techniques.
2)Samurais were not used to the vigorious hardships of war. When they fought, samurais often only fought in open field battles. When they weren’t in battles, samurais were often in the comfort of their dojos training or their home writing poems or managing their llands. The Roman legionnaire on the other hand often faced numerous hardships the samurais could hope to never bear.Unlike the Samurai,Roman legionnaires had to fight not only open field battles but other irregular troops such as insurgents, guerrilla ambushers, and random barbarians that stroke withou warning. When they weren’t in battles,,the typical Roman Legionnaire had to stay in camps in the wilderness often faced the hellish harsh environments such as the frozen winterlands of Germania and the harsh hot deserts of Northern Afdrica or they had to live in the barracks through a more harsher life of discipline with just purely drilling with no luxuries that the samurais had such as personally owned land.
3)The typical Legionnaire was used to being a shock trooper, being in front lines in the hellish part of a battle and being forced as being the basic assault infantry, often fighting the fiercest rtroops of the enemy armies and often having risk getting shot at.The samurais were more like reserved units. In medieval Japan, peasants were the shock troopers and did all the hard fighting.Samurais mainly camin as reingforcements or were used for special purpoese such as flanking the enemy.
4)Roman martial arts were similar to Krav Maga and Combat Sambo in which it was concerned with worst case scenarios such as laying on the ground as someone was going to stab you or getting attacked in a cornered space. The samura martial arts, while deadly, were concerned primarily in stand up fighting against armored opponents.

If you are going to vote for the samura, please put answers with actual historical evidence, not the typical”Samurais had the sharpest swords” or ‘’samurais were the best warriors in history”.
@ Obviously Arbitrary!-Nice joke!Yeah, the Sith Lord would kill both the Roman Legionnaire and the Samurai!

Chuck Norris wins even against a Sith Lord.

Frank the tank | Sep 20, 2009

My money would be on the Sith Lord, since we’re already being idiots, why not take it full throttle.
Obviously Arbitrary! | Sep 20, 2009

One on one I’d still say its the Samurai simply because of better weaponry. The Katana is said to be so sharp that they test it by dropping a silk handkerchief on its blade. It also has a better reach than the short swords of a legionary. Also no individual Roman soldier was ever elevated to Kensai status.

But as a fighting unit, the Roman legion was unstoppable. It wasn’t the individual soldier that conquered these barbaric tribes. It was their ability to work as a unit. This was a unit that bested the Greek Phalanx. Remember that Greek phalanx once proved its effectivity against mighty Persia. The Roman legion however proved that mobility can overwhelm the Greek Phalanx.

As good as the Samurai’s were, as a unit the Legion would have overcome them. They would take a lot of them down, but the legion has a system that allows wounded soldiers to retreat and fresh shoulders to go back in front. The Samurai would be up against a machine that doesn’t stop.

Saad: I read it and yeah for the most part that’s probably true but it sounded like he was describing the Samurais during the Tokugawa era, and that was the time they were in the decline. During the Nobunaga era, where war was first unifying Japan under Oda Nobunaga, the Samurai’s military role was probably more in its prime.

While I admit I know little to nothing about the Roman Legionnaires, I do have to point out that the Samurai are grossly overrated, thanks to Japanese anime etc. I came to this conclusion by going through this topic:

Read the posts by ’spetznaz’. He seems very knowledgeable, and he pointed out very interesting historical facts.

I hope I’m any help.
